Former Tottenham scout takes aim at ‘fancy Dan’ Lucas Bergvall who is ‘more suited to’ another Premier League club

A former Tottenham official has made a bullish claim about Lucas Bergvall as the midfielder attempts to force a move away from the North London club.

12 months ago, no one at Spurs would have even contemplated the idea of selling Bergvall, who swept all of Tottenham’s end-of-season awards in his first year in North London.

However, the 20-year-old has not progressed the way he was expected to, and he struggled to get minutes after Roberto De Zerbi arrived through the door.

With Tottenham now plotting club record deals for Sandro Tonali and Matues Fernandes, the former Djurgarden man’s days at Hotspur Way could be numbered.

Ex-Tottenham official claims Lucas Bergvall will never be a top midfielder

According to reports, Bergvall has informed Spurs he wants to leave in search of a fresh challenge this summer, which initially came as a shock to some Tottenham supporters.

Nottingham Forest have expressed a firm interest in the Spurs midfielder and former Tottenham scout, Bryan King, believes the Lilywhites would be better off cashing in on the youngster.

King told Football Insider about Bergvall: “He’d probably be more suited for Nottingham Forest than he is for Tottenham. Don’t fancy him. I honestly don’t think he’s strong enough to become a top-class midfield player. Fancy Dan, likes to do a little bit on the ball, but for me, he isn’t going to win you a title.

“Decent young player. Potential. But he isn’t going to be top, top flight. He’s not a Stefan Schwarz from the old Swedish days. I mean, you know, talking about the old Swedish players. They were proper players. They were proper midfield players.”

Why it makes sense for Spurs to sell Bergvall this summer

Some Tottenham fans are convinced the club will be making a big mistake by selling Bergvall, given the promise that the midfielder has shown.

However, the reality is that if De Zerbi does not see the 20-year-old in his starting eleven, it would be better to cash in on him now than wait until January or next summer.

Bergvall’s market value is likely to drop considerably if he warms the bench for a season.

Spurs CEO Vinai Venkatesham has admitted that the club have to become better at selling players, and that involves making some tough decisions rather than pushing them into the future.
