Tottenham striker Richarlison has been torn into by former Premier League forward Gabby Agbonlahor following the Brazilian’s failed move to Everton.
Richarlison has received loads of stick in the last few days due to his attitude during the transfer market, especially on deadline day.
Roberto De Zerbi had made it clear that Richarlison was amongst three players to have requested to leave Tottenham this summer, alongside Pape Matar Sarr and Kevin Danso.
The latter two were able to complete loan moves with obligation‑to‑buy clauses to Juventus and Sunderland respectively. However, Richarlison, who was not short of interest, with Everton keen on signing him, opted against a move to Merseyside and remains at the club.
The striker’s action has not been met with love from fans, who believe Richarlison prevented Spurs from landing one of their wide forward targets, Iliman Ndiaye.
The Brazilian, though, has made his feelings clear on social media, stating that he would not be forced out of the club and that things will be done on his own terms.
Gabby Agbonlahor rips into Richarlison after failed Everton move
A move for Richarlison was still being worked on even after the British window ended, with Turkish side Trabzonspor showing late interest in the Brazilian.
The Turkish outfit sent two bids for Richarlison, both of which were rejected by Spurs, while the forward even agreed personal terms with Trabzonspor, who offered to triple his current wages. Richarlison is understood to earn around £90,000 per week at Spurs.
That move, however, did not go through, as Trabzonspor had to sell a foreign player before they could land Richarlison. The Turkish window has also now closed.
Richarlison’s attitude has now drawn criticism from former Premier League forward Gabby Agbonlahor, with the ex‑Aston Villa man taking to talkSPORT to deliver a scathing assessment of the striker.
Agbonlahor did not hold back when discussing the Tottenham forward, questioning his ability, attitude and reported reasons for rejecting a move back to Everton.
Speaking on talkSPORT, he said: “Let’s be honest about Richarlison. Listen, I never like to come on here and absolutely slaughter players, but there are words that I cannot use to describe him on air, but I will try and use the words that you are allowed to say.
“He is a prat, an absolute idiot. Let’s be honest. Whenever I have watched him, he is not quick in behind; he cannot hold the ball up. Can he score the odd goal? Yes, he can, but his theatrics, his jumping up and down – his attitude stinks; his arrogance as well.
“For someone who has scored 75 Premier League goals in 276 appearances, he acts like he is that main guy. There is a reason why Carlo Ancelotti never picked him for the World Cup.
“He is not a good striker and I am hearing reports that he is getting three times the money at Trabzonspor than he was at Spurs.
“That is why he did not want to go back to Everton, because he knew there was more money available. I just do not see it – only 32 goals in 134 appearances for Spurs. Spurs fans will be thinking, bye‑bye.”
Richarlison statistics compared to Gabby Agbonlahor
While Richarlison is not the most popular figure amongst Tottenham supporters at the moment, his underlying numbers do prove that he is indeed a better performer than Agbonlahor.
The former Villa forward spent most of his career in the Premier League and made 322 appearances in the English top flight. However, in that time, he scored just 73 goals and managed 37 assists.
Richarlison, on the other hand, has managed more goals in far fewer Premier League games. The Brazilian’s record stands at 75 goals and 31 assists in 276 appearances.
