Juventus legend Gianluigi Buffon has revealed what he told Guglielmo Vicario following the goalkeeper’s loan switch from Tottenham.
Tottenham Hotspur are pleased with their summer transfer business after the club sanctioned 54 transfers across the men’s first team and youth squad.
Not only were 10 players signed to bolster and improve Roberto De Zerbi’s team, but players who wanted out were also shipped away.
That included Guglielmo Vicario, who De Zerbi confirmed asked to leave Tottenham during the summer transfer window.

Spurs were able to sanction a Vicario loan move to Juventus in Italy that includes an £8.5m option to buy.
The shotstopper has since settled into life in Turin, with the 28-year-old having featured in the Old Lady’s last three outings in Serie A.
Former Juventus goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon has now opened up to Gazzetta dello Sport about Juve’s piece of business this summer, including Vicario’s deal.
Buffon offered a brief insight into what he told Vicario before he made the move to Turin, while also highlighting the significance of playing for the Italian giants.
He said: “I only gave Guglielmo one piece of advice – enjoy the experience. Playing for Juventus is a privilege. Wherever you go, you sense the importance of the shirt.”
Buffon defends Vicario after Spurs struggles
Vicario’s final season at Tottenham was not exactly perfect, with the Italian receiving loads of stick for his inability to play out from the back with the ball at his feet.
Not only was that flaw highlighted, but Vicario also made several errors that led to goals, which was far from ideal given the club’s struggles.
However, it was not all bad for the Italian, who was a big part player in Spurs’ Europa League triumph back in 2025.
Buffon also spoke about Vicario’s time at Tottenham and whether fans are underrating him because of that.
The Old Lady legend clarified that he was not responsible for the Spurs mess and explained why the goalkeeper suffered as a result of the team’s poor form.
“No, but he’s judged by many people who don’t fully understand the goalkeeper’s role. Vicario was heavily criticised in his last year at Tottenham, but he’s coming off a formative experience; he was a key player and a winner in the Premier League.”
“Last season he paid the price, because when a team goes bad, 99.99% of the time, the goalkeeper also suffers.”
