‘Poor performance’ – Spurs player determined to put last season behind him

Heung-min Son has admitted that he remains determined to make up for his disappointing previous season having hit the ground running under Ange Postecoglou.

The South Korean is coming off the back of an impressive month for Tottenham Hotspur having scored six goals in four matches as Spurs beat Burnley, Sheffield United and Liverpool, and drew with Arsenal, to continue their unbeaten start to the season which sees them sitting at the top of the Premier League table heading into the international break.

Son’s form during September was seen him recognised with the Premier League Player of the Month award in which the captain was in prolific form having netted a hat-trick against the Clarets, a brace in the north London derby, and the opening goal in Spurs’ first victory over Liverpool since 2017.

Heung-min Son vows to make up for last season

The 31-year-old managed to score 14 goals and six assists from 47 matches across all competitions last season in a disappointing campaign for Tottenham which saw them finish in eigth place in the table and fail to qualify for European football for the first time in over a decade (transfermarkt).

Son, who is currently on international duty with South Korea started today’s match against Tunisia on the bench having been replaced in the 76th minute in Tottenham’s 1-0 win over Luton Town last weekend.

He told Korean news outlet Donga: “When I won the top scorer during the 2021/22 season, I did my best and had help from my teammates. If I think about how I can help the team, I will gain something from the team.

“This season, I am just doing my best to make up for last season’s poor performance.”

Following Harry Kane’s departure, Heung-min Son has definitely stepped up to the plate and taken the responsibility for finding the back of the net and the decision to give him the captain’s armband has seen him flourish with the added responisbility placed on his shoulders.
