How long James Maddison will be out after fracturing shoulder in Tottenham vs Brentford

The severity of James Maddison’s injury has been confirmed after the Tottenham midfielder fell awkwardly in the club’s 3-0 loss to Brentford on Saturday.

Maddison has had a nightmare year and a half, first picking up an injury that saw him miss the 2025 Europa League final, and then picking up an ACL injury during last summer’s pre-season.

That injury saw the attacking midfielder miss almost the whole of last season and cost him a potential place in England’s World Cup squad.

The 29-year-old would have been hoping to make up for lost time this campaign, but he has now suffered another setback.

Tottenham midfielder James Maddison suffers a slight fracture to his shoulder

Maddison started on the bench and came on in the 67th minute in place of Mikey Moore at the Gtech Community Stadium, and the England international fell awkwardly on his shoulder during the cameo appearance.

It emerged on Tuesday that the former Leicester man was set to undergo tests on his shoulder, and the results are now out.

The Athletic’s David Ornstein has revealed that scans showed that Maddison has suffered a slight fracture on his shoulder.

However, the Tottenham star has only sustained minor damage, and there is optimism that he will not be out for long. The injury is only expected to keep him out of action for up to two weeks.

What games could Maddison miss for Spurs?

This injury appears to rule the attacking midfielder out for the Carabao Cup clash against Charlton this evening, and the Premier League match against Newcastle on Saturday.

Roberto De Zerbi will be hoping that the 29-year-old is available for his side’s trip to the City Ground on September 5.

With Xavi Simons, Dejan Kulusevski and Mohammed Kudus out injured, losing another attacking player is far from ideal for Spurs, with Conor Gallagher now set to have a key role in the upcoming matches.
