Tottenham Hotspur and Juventus are currently working on a transfer for Pape Matar Sarr after he asked to leave the North London club.
Following Tottenham’s 2-0 loss to Newcastle United in their first home Premier League game of the season, Roberto De Zerbi confirmed that Sarr is one of three players who are free to leave the club before the September 1 deadline.
While Galatasaray, Brentford and Aston Villa were initially credited with an interest in the Tottenham man, it emerged over recent days that Nottingham Forest had held advanced talks over the midfielder’s signature.
However, one of Europe’s biggest clubs has now moved to the front of the queue to land the Spurs youngster in the dying stages of the transfer window.
Juventus could end up paying £28m for Tottenham’s Pape Sarr
On Sunday evening, it emerged that Juventus had agreed personal terms with Sarr and were holding talks with Spurs over a loan agreement.
Gianluca Di Marzio has now revealed that Tottenham and the Bianconeri are currently discussing an initial loan with a conditional obligation to buy.
The journalist claims that the Serie A club could offer a €3m (£2.5m) loan fee, with the conditional obligation to buy potentially set at €30m (£25.6m), bringing the total cost of the operation to €33m (£28.2m).
Di Marzio wrote on X: Sarr-Juventus: the bases on which the parties are negotiating are a paid loan of 3 million and an option (conditional obligation) for about 30.”
Would a conditional obligation to buy suit Spurs?
Given that the Senegal international is not short of suitors, Tottenham would likely want a guaranteed transfer fee.
The Lilywhites may only agree to a conditional obligation to buy if the conditions are very easy, such as the midfielder making around 20 appearances for the Serie A club this season.
Given that Tottenham bought Sarr from Metz for less than £15m, it sounds like they could end up netting a decent profit on the midfielder.
