The race for Tottenham midfielder Pape Matar Sarr is heating up in the final few days of the transfer window, and there is now a clear frontrunner.
Roberto De Zerbi has admitted that Sarr could exit Tottenham before the transfer deadline after leaving the youngster out of the matchday squad in the club’s first two league matches.
It emerged a couple of days ago that Monaco are exploring a move for Sarr, while it had been previously reported that Galatasaray, Brentford and Aston Villa were all fans of the Tottenham man.
However, another Premier League club has now moved to the front of the queue in the race for the Senegal international.
Nottingham Forest are in advanced talks to land Pape Sarr from Tottenham
On Friday, The Telegraph’s Mike McGrath revealed that Crystal Palace and Nottingham Forest had launched enquiries for the 23-year-old Spurs man.
According to journalist Sacha Tavolieri, Forest are now in pole position to land Sarr, with the club holding advanced talks over a loan deal with the option to buy the midfielder next summer.
Tavolieri wrote on X: “Nottingham Forest have made progress in the Pape Matar Sarr deal in recent hours. Talks with Tottenham have advanced and could lead to a paid loan with an option to buy. NFFC really appreciate the Senegalese midfielder and are trying to convince him of their project.”
One more senior Spurs man could leave the club
Sarr is not the only senior Tottenham player who could head out the door at Hotspur Way before the September 1 deadline.
Richarlison’s future at Spurs is in major doubt following the arrival of Omar Marmoush from Manchester City a few days ago.
De Zerbi has given the Brazilian the approval to leave the club, and sources indicate that Everton remain in contact with Tottenham over re-signing their former striker.
