Tottenham Hotspur have ended up spending much more than many expected on Savinho, who has become Manchester City’s record sale.
Yesterday evening, Fabrizio Romano finally gave his long-awaited ‘here we go’ for Savinho’s move from Man City to Spurs.
The two clubs have been negotiating for the 22-year-old since the start of the summer, with the deal eventually agreed less than 48 hours before the Lilywhites kick off their new Premier League campaign.
Romano revealed yesterday that the deal would cost over £75m, and the full cost of the transaction and its breakdown have now come to light.
Tottenham could end up paying £85m for Savinho
Journalist Ben Jacobs has now revealed that the deal to bring the Brazilian to North London is worth £75m plus £10m in add-ons, out of which £5m are guaranteed.
This has also been backed up by Sky Sports Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg, who revealed that £75m plus £5m in bonuses is ‘almost guaranteed’, while the deal could eventually reach £85m.
He added that the deal contitutes a club-record sale for the Manchester club.
Jacobs wrote on X: “Savinho to Spurs agreed for £85m deal. Club-record sale for MCFC. £75m + £10m add ons. £5m of bonuses guaranteed.”
Plettenberg wrote on X: Savinho to Tottenham – DONE DEAL Full agreement reached with Manchester City. Transfer fee for 22 y/o winger around £75m guaranteed plus £10m add-ons. £5m of the bonuses are almost guaranteed. Club record sale! Deal will be completed pending medical and contract signing.”
Could the high Savinho fee be a tactic to get around Omar Marmoush’s sell-on clause?
It is an open secret that Spurs and Man City are also holding negotiations over a deal for Omar Marmoush, who could follow Savinho to N17.
Eintracht Frankfurt hold a 15 per cent sell-on clause on the Egyption, and there has been some speculation on social media that Man City and Tottenham have agreed a bigger fee for Savinho to get around the clause.
The details of the deals are likely to come to light over the coming hours and days as the two clubs accilerate talks over Marmoush.
