Tottenham Hotspur and Atletico Madrid are working to resolve their differences to facilitate Cristian Romero’s move to the Spanish capital.
Inter Milan and Spurs had agreed a €40m (£34m) deal for Romero a few days ago, but Atletico Madrid have barged into the race and are now edging close to completing a full hijack.
The Spurs captain is thought to be keen on a move to the Metropolitano Stadium, and he has already taken a huge step towards completing it.
According to reports in Spain, Romero has agreed terms on a long-term contract with the La Liga club, which is worth around worth €6m (£5.1m) per year.

Spurs remain determined not to accept less than the financial package previously agreed with Inter, and Atletico are now ‘edging closer’ to matching those demands.
Diego Simeone’s side have accelerated several first-team departures to facilitate Romero’s arrival and are confident that the 28-year-old will become their latest marquee addition.

Manor Solomon also appears certain to leave Tottenham, while sources continue to suggest that Pape Sarr has been put in the shop window.
