How Tottenham can still sell Richarlison despite transfer window closing

Tottenham Hotspur have officially closed the door on their incoming summer transfer business in England, but Richarlison’s future could remain open for several more days as other leagues continue to operate.

The summer 2026 transfer window is now officially over, and Tottenham Hotspur can look back on what has been an incredibly busy summer.

The North London club have spent a club record figure close to £400m on 10 new arrivals, although much of that outlay has been offset by the 18 players who have left the club during the summer.

Despite the Premier League deadline passing at 11pm BST on Tuesday, however, there is still a way for a player whose future remains uncertain at Tottenham to leave the club.

Richarlison could still leave Tottenham this summer

Roberto De Zerbi revealed at the weekend that Richarlison had said ‘too many times’ that he wants to leave, amid interest from his former club Everton, although a late return to Merseyside did not materialise.

That ultimately affected Tottenham’s own plans, with their proposed deal for Iliman Ndiaye collapsing, while Richarlison has also found himself involved in an online backlash from some Spurs supporters.

The Brazilian is not necessarily stuck at Tottenham yet, though, with the transfer windows in Turkey and Saudi Arabia remaining open for several more days.

Richarlison is said to be ‘mulling’ over offers from Turkey and Saudi Arabia, although some reports suggest he could ultimately remain at Tottenham. If that proves to be the case, the situation could make for an awkward few months in North London.

Tottenham can still sign free agents after deadline

Players who are without a club after the transfer deadline can still be signed outside the normal window. However, their ability to immediately feature depends on whether their new club has room in its registered 25-man squad.

The BBC reports that while there is no officially published cut-off point for signing free agents, it is understood to be roughly a week after the main transfer window closes.

Spurs are not currently linked with any free agents, but there are plenty of interesting names still available should De Zerbi decide that another position needs strengthening.
