Tottenham Hotspur will be pleased with the latest development regarding Marcus Rashford as they look to bring the forward to N17.

It has been widely reported over recent weeks that Spurs are exploring a surprise deal for Rashford as Barcelona hesitate to land the forward permanently despite his impressive performances on loan last season.

It has been suggested over recent weeks that Barca are looking for a major discount on the England international, but Man United have not budged on their asking price.

As the forward prepares for the Three Lions’ World Cup opener against Croatia on Wednesday, there has now been a big update on the Catalan club’s stance on the player.

Barcelona have decided not to buy Tottenham target Marcus Rashford

The Daily Mail have now revealed that, according to sources in Spain, Barcelona have decided to call off their pursuit of Rashford.

Hansi Flick’s men have a £26m purchase option on the 28-year-old, which can be activated until Monday, but any deal after that would require negotiations with Man United.

However, despite having another 24 hours to activate the clause, Barca have now decided not to pursue a deal for Rashford and are happy for him to return to Old Trafford after the World Cup.

The La Liga giants have already spent £70m to sign Anthony Gordon from Newcastle, and it is explained that they picked Gordon over Rashford for his defensive work, which is seen as the United star’s ‘weakest point’.

Spurs set to face huge competition for Rashford

The Mail say that while the 28-year-old would prefer to return to Camp Nou, United would be free to do business with other clubs following Monday’s deadline.

The outlet confirms what other sources have reported over recent weeks by stating that Tottenham Hotspur could face competition from Arsenal, Aston Villa and Chelsea for Rashford.

Additionally, it is suggested that Real Madrid and Bayern Munich could also emerge as options for the pacy wide-forward over the coming days and weeks.
