Roberto De Zerbi has weighed in on the increasing number of reports suggesting that Inter Milan have agreed a deal with Tottenham Hotspur for Cristian Romero.
The Tottenham captain’s exit from Spurs looks certain, with De Zerbi previously making it clear that he will not convince Romero to stay at the club.
The Lilywhites have already strengthened in central defence with the additions of Jan Paul van Hecke and Marcos Senesi this summer, thus paving the way for the Argentine’s departure.
Romero is still on holiday after suffering World Cup final heartbreak against Spain a couple of weeks ago, and he now appears to be edging closer to a move to Italy.

Several outlets are now reporting that Tottenham and Inter Milan have struck an agreement of €40m (£34m) for Romero, who could soon be on his way to the San Siro.
However, De Zerbi insisted that he is not following the negotiations closely and that he only got in touch with the centre-back recently regarding his pre-season programme when he returns to Hotspur Way.
When asked if reports of Spurs agreeing a fee with Inter for the centre-back are true, the Tottenham boss told Football.London: “I don’t know. I texted with Cuti yesterday and this morning and yesterday, but to make a plan for when he has come to London but not for the transfer market.
“And also it’s not my job. You have to ask Johan Lange and Vinai [Venkatesham]. I know there are many solutions in the transfer market, but I don’t follow the negotiations.”
Inter yet to agree personal terms with Romero
While a fee may have been agreed between the two clubs, Romero’s wage demands may be a roadblock for his proposed move to Inter.
Some sources have said that the Nerazzurri are edging close to an agreement with the Spurs man, and are optimistic of finalising a deal.
However, they may have to act fast, with some publications suggesting that Atletico Madrid could reignite their interest in Romero after exploring a deal for the Tottenham star last summer.
