Roberto De Zerbi has made an interesting admission about Mikey Moore’s future after the winger scored for Tottenham in their 5-1 win over Charlton.

Moore struggled to make an impact against Brentford last Saturday, missing two gilt-edged chances in the second half.

However, De Zerbi showed his faith in the 18-year-old by handing him another start in the second round of the Carabao Cup, and the youngster showed just why he is so highly thought of at Hotspur Way.

Moore netted his first senior goal for Spurs with a powerful left-foot drive on 41 minutes and showed his willingness to run at the Charlton defence at every opportunity.

Roberto De Zerbi hints at what the future holds for Tottenham’s Mikey Moore

The teenager’s display comes amid heavy speculation suggesting that the Spurs academy graduate is expected to complete a loan move to FC Koln over the coming days.

De Zerbi admitted that while he would prefer to keep the teenager as a part of his squad, he and the club hierarchy realise that he needs to play regularly in order to fast-forward his development.

When asked how important it was for Moore to produce that performance after he struggled against Brentford, the Italian told Football.London: “It is important for him, it is important for us because he is our player from the academy and in this day we have to understand what the best solution is for him, for us because I would like to keep him because he is young but a good player.

“But we can’t (make) the wrong decision because anyway he needs to play and put games inside of him. With Johan Lange and Vinai we have to find the best solution.”

De Zerbi looking forward to Liverpool challenge in third round of Carabao Cup

Not long after their thumping win over Charlton, Tottenham discovered that they would travel to Anfield to take on Liverpool in the third round of the Carabao Cup.

De Zerbi insists that it is a challenge that he and his players are looking forward to, adding that they need to beat sides like the Reds if they want to win the competition.

When asked about facing Liverpool in the next round, he said: “Great, it’s a great game, if we want to win the competition, we want to win the games. Sometimes in this competition, it can happen to play already in the beginning of this competition against big, big teams.

“It’s a great challenge for the players, for me, for our club. And we have to arrive at that game ready to play in our style, ready to play with personality, ready to play again, following the work we are doing on the training ground.”
