‘Is waiting’ – Fabrizio Romano reveals Spurs target awaits news of manager appointment

Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford is currently waiting to see who Tottenham Hotspur appoint as their next head coach before he makes any decision on his future, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The England goalkeeper has been linked with a move to north London and is said to be on Tottenham’s list as one of the potential replacements for Hugo Lloris, who has been tipped to leave this summer (Daily Mail).

Lloris admitted earlier this week of his desire to seek a new challenge away from Tottenham despite having a year to run on his existing contract having originally joined 11 years ago and has made more than 440 appearances for the club (transfermarkt).

Brentford’s David Raya has also been mentioned as a potential successor for the World Cup winner, with the Spaniard also entering the final year of his deal with the Bees (Evening Standard).

Tottenham are currently on the lookout for a new head coach following the departure of Antonio Conte towards the end of March, with Celtic’s Ange Postecoglou said to have emerged as the leading candidate to take on the job in N17 after he guided the Bhoys to a historic eighth domestic treble yesterday evening (Sky Sports).

Romano told the Here We Go Podcast: “There are going to be many goalkeepers, there are some options, there will be a busy domino of goalkeepers and the first one I think that will move is David Raya, Brentford have already signed his replacement, Pickford is waiting, let’s see what will happen at Tottenham I expect Hugo Lloris to leave the club, so Spurs could be another team in this domino.

“Pickford is waiting, Pickford is also waiting for new managers to come in for example at Tottenham because it will be crucial to see which players they want to sign, at the moment Pickford is going to wait and see,”

Pickford has signed a new four-and-a-half-year contract with Everton in February, committing his future to the Premier League strugglers until the end of June 2027.

He was due to enter the last 12 months of his existing deal this summer and had been linked with a move to Tottenham with the Toffees narrowly avoiding the drop.

David Raya would not only be a more attractive proposition for Tottenham given his contract situation but would also be a more reliable option. Pickford is guilty of making rash decisions at times that have proven costly.

Lloris’ time at Tottenham looks to be clearly at an end, with a return to France looking like the most likely destination for the 36-year-old.
