Tottenham Hotspur are closing in on their first signing of the summer after Fabrizio Romano gave the Andy Robertson deal his trademark ‘here we go’ confirmation, and we have now taken a look at how the full-back’s wages compare to the rest of the Spurs squad.

Tottenham Hotspur are now close to their first signing of the summer transfer window as they look to dip into the free-agent market.

Spurs Web reported just yesterday that the verbal agreement for Andy Robertson to join Spurs, should they secure their Premier League status, is expected to be fulfilled despite Juventus’ attempt to hijack the deal from Tottenham.

The Liverpool full-back would arrive as an experienced addition for Spurs, who are looking to rebuild their squad ahead of the next campaign.

Tottenham could hand Andy Robertson huge wages

Of course, Tottenham signing Robertson this summer means they will not have to pay a transfer fee to Liverpool, unlike in the winter when a modest fee was being negotiated.

However, if the full-back completes the move now, Spurs will still have to cover his wages, and we have taken a look at how much he earned at Liverpool and where that would place him among Tottenham’s top earners.

According to figures from Capology, Robertson earned £160,000 per week during his time at Liverpool, amounting to £8.32m per year.

With bonuses worth a further £2.08m, the Scotland international was taking home £10.4m annually, making him Liverpool’s seventh-highest earner.

Robertson’s wages would place him among Spurs’ top earners

There is no denying that those are astronomical wages for a full-back approaching the latter stages of his career. Whether he will be on similar wages should he complete a move to Tottenham remains to be seen.

However, if Robertson joins Spurs on similar terms, the Scotland international would be earning the same salary as Conor Gallagher, who arrived in January.

That would place Robertson as Tottenham’s joint fourth-highest earner, with only Xavi Simons, Cristian Romero and James Maddison earning more.

Of course, his £160,000-per-week salary would still fall below Tottenham’s wage ceiling, which reportedly sets a cap of £200,000 per week.
