Jermain Defoe comes out in defence of Daniel Levy despite Tottenham protests

Jermain Defoe has become the latest former Tottenham hero to come to the defence of Daniel Levy amidst the wave of fan protests against the Spurs chairman.

Over the course of this season, we have seen Spurs fans protest in the thousands calling for Daniel Levy and ENIC to leave.

Many supporters feel that the owners are to blame for the club’s 17-year trophy drought as they have prioritised the bottom line over on-pitch success throughout their tenure.

A Tottenham fan group have now announced plans for yet another Spurs protest at the start of April, which will be the third major one we have seen from the supporters this season.

Jermain Defoe comes to Daniel Levy’s defence

A few weeks ago, we saw Tottenham legend and former captain, Hugo Lloris come to Levy’s defence, with the Frenchman crediting the Spurs chairman for elevating Spurs into one of the biggest clubs in the world.

It is now the turn of Defoe to sign the praises of his former employer, insisting that no Tottenham fan could accuse the 63-year-old of not trying to bring success to N17.

The former Tottenham Hotspur striker told The Mirror’s TikTok channel: “I do get what fans are saying, but the chairman can only do so much. His vision was for the club to be the best in class.

“Best training ground, we’ve got that, best coaches in terms of academy coaches, some amazing coaches there, the infrastructure, the stadium, it’s unbelievable.

“Poch went, he got Jose Mourinho, the next best one Antonio Conte, they have spent money. Nobody can say he hasn’t tried, but I’d just love to see everyone come together.”

Daniel Levy’s big Tottenham decisions have backfired since 2019

While Tottenham may have an amazing stadium, a great training ground and the best academy coaches, almost all of the club’s big footballing decisions have backfired over the last five or six years.

This includes all the managerial appointments made since Mauricio Pochettino and the responsibility for that ultimately falls at Levy’s feet.

If the Ange Postecoglou project also fails, Spurs fans might not have the patience for another new project and yet another rebuild under the same hierarchy, and many will understandably expect a change at the top.
