Joao Palhinha has shared the feelings in the Tottenham camp after the club stayed in the Premier League by the skin of their teeth.

The day was always going to have some drama, and that came right at the end, with Spurs having to play almost the entirety of injury time with the knowledge that West Ham had done their job by beating Leeds.

Even though Everton needed two late goals to send Tottenham down, the players, staff and the fans remained extremely anxious until deep into stoppage time.

In the end, the home side managed to see out a 1- win to stay up by two points, and the man who scored their match-winner has now reflected on the season as a whole.

Joao Palhinha opens up ‘amazing feeling’ after a ‘really tough season’ for Tottenham

Palhinha not only got Spurs’ all-important goal on the day, but was arguably the best player on the pitch, fighting tirelessly both on and off the ball and not giving the opponents an inch.

The 30-year-old confessed that it has been challenging season for everyone at the club, but believes that the future is bright for Tottenham following their great escape.

Palhinha told Sky Sports: “It’s an amazing feeling after a really tough season. A lot of things happened this season, but we showed today what we can do. After a bad season like this one, we showed up as a collective and had amazing support from the fans.

“The club will grow up with this season, and we know what we have to do in the future. It’s a great pleasure to play here with a top coach and top teammates. We have to celebrate even if we didn’t finish the position we deserve as Tottenham.”

On his goal, the Bayern Munich loanee said: “It was just a goal. I just tried to help the team. I had a lot of emotions and wanted to dedicate it to my two sons and my parents.”

Has Palhinha hinted at a Spurs stay?

Roberto De Zerbi declared he wants Palhinha to remain at Tottenham next season, but reports over recent weeks have indicated that Sporting Lisbon are ready to battle Spurs for the midfielder.

Sources from Portugal suggested that Palhinha did not want to discuss his future with Tottenham when they were in the middle of a relegation fight.

The former Fulham man’s positive comments referencing the club’s future today may be a big hint that he wants to stay at N17.
