Johan Lange may favour 51-year-old to replace Postecoglou at Spurs

The speculation continues to swerve around Ange Postecoglou’s future and potential candidates to replace him, and it has now emerged that Spurs technical director, Johan Lange, may be favouring the appointment of one Premier League manager.

Are Spurs searching for Postecoglou’s replacement?

While the general sense from Hotspur Way seems to be that Tottenham are going to stick with Postecoglou for now, one would not be surprised if the club have already started assessing candidates to replace the Australian in the background.

With Spurs sitting just eight points away from the drop zone, the club’s hierarchy may be forced to act soon if they do not see any signs of improvement.

Over the last few days, it has emerged that Tottenham are considering former Borussia Dortmund boss Edin Terzic as well as Premier League duo, Bournemouth’s Andoni Iraola and Brentford’s Thomas Frank, as candidates to replace the 59-year-old.

Johan Lange is a fan of one candidate

If Spurs are going to look for a new head coach, one would expect Johan Lange to have plenty of influence on the appointment, if not spearhead the search himself.

If The Daily Mail’s latest update is to be believed, the Dane might have a preference from the previously mentioned three-man list.

The outlet explains that the Tottenham technical director is an admirer of Thomas Frank and the work that he has done at the Gtech Community Stadium.

The 51-year-old has been with the West London club since 2018, getting them promoted to the top-flight and establishing them as a Premier League force.

Thomas Frank would be a safe but unspectacular choice

If Daniel Levy and Johan Lange are looking for a candidate to steady the ship, then one can understand the temptation to approach Frank, who is a steady character, organises his side well, and knows what works in the Premier League.

However, the appointment would represent a big departure from Tottenham’s stated stance of prioritising building for the future and staying true to the club’s traditions of attacking football.

If Spurs decide to replace Postecoglou, they have to bring in a manager who sees the game similarly if they want to ensure continuity rather than ripping everything up and starting from scratch again.
