Amid reports suggesting that Micky van de Ven is open to staying at Tottenham, a former Spurs official has now given some bad news regarding the centre-back’s future.

The Tottenham dressing room now looks like a much happier place after the Lilywhites managed to pick up two back-to-back wins and move out of the bottom three.

The Spurs players appear to be enjoying working under Roberto De Zerbi, and it has been suggested that Van de Ven could have a change of heart and remain at N17.

This was backed up a few days ago by Ben Jacobs, who said that the Tottenham defender is extremely open to signing a new deal as he is loving life under De Zerbi.

Man United continue to plot move for Tottenham’s Micky van de Ven

Over the past few months, several outlets have suggested that Man United have set their sights on Van de Ven, as they look to reinforce their backline this summer.

This was backed up by The Athletic, who claimed a couple of weeks ago that the Spurs star is near the top of United’s summer wishlist.

Former Tottenham scout, Mick Brown, who remains well connected to industry sources, has now confirmed that the Red Devils have not abandoned their pursuit of the Netherlands international yet.

When asked about speculation linking Van de Ven with a switch to Old Trafford, Brown told Football Insider: “Persuading players to join Man United has never been a problem. But being in the Champions League next season will be a big boost to the club financially and in terms of going and getting players to improve the squad.

“There are a few priority positions in the team, and one of them is at centre-back. They’ve got Harry Maguire for another year, but who’s going to play alongside him? They’ve got the young lads, Heaven and Yoro, who have been very impressive.

“But the senior players, Martinez and De Ligt, they’re not sure about because of the injury issues they’ve had and they’ve struggled with consistency. Going into next season, they want an experienced and reliable centre-back alongside Maguire, and that’s why Micky van de Ven is somebody I’m told they’re looking at.

“He might leave Tottenham even if they stay in the Premier League because he wants to play at a higher level, and Man United can offer him that. He would be an ambitious target but he’s somebody they like in a position they need to strengthen, so it’s something they have to look at.”

Which other clubs are interested in Van de Ven?

According to various reports, Liverpool could challenge Man United for Van de Ven this summer as the Reds are prioritising additions at centre-back.

Some outlets have even claimed that both Real Madrid and Barcelona have expressed their interest in the Spurs centre-back.

Tottenham allegedly value Van de Ven at £100m, with the former Wolfsburg man having three years left on his current deal at N17.
