Journalist Ben Jacobs has provided a huge update on Micky van de Ven’s future at Tottenham Hotspur.

Over the last few months, some outlets have suggested that Van de Ven’s head has been turned ahead of the summer window after some of the biggest clubs in Europe expressed their interest in the centre-back.

In fact, some sources have even alleged that the Tottenham defender is signalling with his off-field antics that he expects to leave this summer.

Liverpool and Man United are among the clubs reported to be interested in Van de Ven, who is thought to be valued at around £60m-£80m by Spurs.

Micky van de Ven is open to signing a new Tottenham contract after Roberto De Zerbi’s arrival

The Dutchman’s performances have fallen short of his usual high standards this season, but there has been a marked improvement in his displays since De Zerbi walked through the door.

Ben Jacobs has now revealed that the Netherlands international is now open to signing a new contract with Spurs if the club avoid relegation to the Championship.

The journalist told GiveMeSport: “You have a profile like Micky Van de ven that Spurs really want to fight to keep if they go down. That’s going to be very difficult, but I tell you something, if Tottenham stay up, my information is that Micky Van de Ven is extremely open signing a new deal.

“Now he’s very happy with Roberto De Zerbi as manager, and De Zerbi coming in has enhanced the chances of Tottenham staying up, that Van de Ven signs a new deal, and [Cristian] Romero still goes.”

Can De Zerbi also win over Cristian Romero?

While there is positive news regarding Van de Ven, his centre-back partner continues to be heavily linked with a departure from Tottenham.

Barcelona have now reportedly entered the race for Romero, while it was previously reported that the Spurs captain is on the radars of Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid and Man United.

The likesb a of Fabrizio Romano have also suggested that Romano is probably on his way out of Tottenham, but the supporters may be holding out hope that the Argentine has a change of heart, just as Van de Ven did.
