Man United’s priorities this summer have now come to light amid reports linking Tottenham captain Cristian Romero with a move to Old Trafford.
Romero has been widely backed to leave Tottenham, with the centre-back’s relationship with the club having reportedly become strained.
Spurs are edging closer to a deal for Jan Paul Van Hecke, and they are also expected to complete a deal for Marcos Senesi, which many see as a sign that the Tottenham captain is on the way out.
In a shock development, it emerged a few days ago that Man United are preparing an offer for Romero as they look to reinforce their squad ahead of a return to the Champions League.

Man United sources have shut down talks of signing Tottenham’s Cristian Romero
TEAMtalk have now claimed that sources at United have shut down the speculation linking the World Cup winner with a move to Old Trafford.
Club sources have confirmed to the outlet that Michael Carrick’s side are not actively pursuing Romero at the moment, despite the ongoing rumours.
In fact, the website claims that United are not even targeting a centre-back at the moment, with the Red Devils’ recruitment department focused on bolstering the left-back role and adding strength in depth to their midfield.
Could Spurs be stuck with Romero?
While Atletico Madrid continue to be linked with Romero, their interest does not appear as intense as last summer, going by the media reports so far.
Reports in the Spanish press suggest that Barcelona have identified Romero as a ‘Plan B’ if they are not able to secure Inter Milan’s Alessandro Bastoni.
With United now seemingly out of the running, Tottenham may struggle to find a buyer who can meet their valuation for their captain this summer, but things may change drastically if he has a good World Cup.
