Tottenham Hotspur have not given up on Jan Paul van Hecke despite seeing their offers turned down, with a reputed journalist revealing what the Lilywhites will do next.

Brighton CEO Paul Barber confirmed on Sunday that two offers from Spurs for Van Hecke had been turned down, making it clear that the Seagulls will only sell the centre-back if their valuation is met.

However, it has emerged over the last few hours that the Brighton star has agreed personal terms with Tottenham ahead of a potential switch to N17.

The same report explained that Spurs are continuing talks with the South Coast club and are hopeful of finalising the deal for the player, who is preparing for the World Cup with the Netherlands squad in the USA right now.

Tottenham set to make a third offer for Jan Paul van Hecke

Journalist Ben Jacobs has now taken to social media to reveal that the Lilywhites are preparing their third offer for the 25-year-old.

Jacobs revealed that Van Hecke is keen on joining Roberto De Zerbi’s side and there is belief at the North London club that the differences between them and Brighton could be sorted out.

The journalist wrote on X: “Spurs intend to place a third bid for Brighton defender Jan Paul van Hecke. Van Hecke only has a year left on his contract and wants to join. There remains optimism that an agreement can be reached.”

Tottenham’s latest bid was worth around £50m (€58m), including add-ons. However, that falls short of Brighton’s £70m (€81m) valuation, which the Seagulls have maintained throughout negotiations.

Roberto De Zerbi factor has given Spurs an advantage in Van Hecke pursuit

Van Hecke showered praise on De Zerbi when the Italian left Brighton two years ago, admitting that the Tottenham boss had transformed his game.

During their time together at the Amex Stadium, De Zerbi described the centre-back as a “great player”, revealing that the Dutch defender had surprised him and his staff when they first took over the South Coast club.

It appears that the pair’s relationship has been pivotal in giving Tottenham an upper hand over other suitors, as it is difficult to see why Van Hecke would prioritise a move to Spurs otherwise.
