Manager admits he has criticised Spurs midfielder behind closed doors

Norwich City manager Daniel Farke has admitted that he is not holding back from criticising on-loan Spurs midfielder Oliver Skipp.

There was understandably a lot of excitement among some Spurs fans to see how the youngster will fare in the Championship after his season-long loan move to the Canaries was confirmed.

The 20-year-old has hit the ground running at Carrow Road as he has been one of Norwich’s best performers in their first few matches, even being voted the Man of the Match in their 1-0 win over Huddersfield Town.

Farke admitted that he has been trying his best to keep Skipp’s feet on the ground.

Speaking about the Tottenham loanee, the Norwich boss told The Pink Un: “He might have got praise outside the camp after Huddersfield, but I can promise you he also got criticism inside because there were some topics where he can improve.

“I am always careful not to praise young lads too soon.”

Farke also admitted that the club were quite careful before deciding to take the midfielder for the season and insisted that the youngster can still improve his tactical awareness.

He added: “When you bring in a lad like Oliver Skipp and you are asking him to replace proper players who have been important for us in recent seasons, like Tom Trybull or Moritz Leitner, you have to be sure he was the right choice. We were unbelievably careful.

“In terms of his skills he is good for our possession way, tidy and clean in his passes, makes good vertical passes and he also offers physicality. He wins plenty of balls.

“He still has to work on the tactical behaviour and the decision-making, when to stay in the centre and when to step out. Even after good games, we can talk about these things.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Norwich is an excellent fit for Skipp given the kind of football Daniel Farke likes his sides to play. Hopefully, the youngster can build on his good start and go on to be an important player for the Canaries this campaign.

I personally believe that Norwich are favourites to come straight back up and I would not mind seeing Skipp being loaned out again to Carrow Road next season should they get back into the top flight.
