James Maddison and Dominic Solanke are still working their way up to full fitness and need to establish themselves in the Tottenham team and show consistency for them to break in.
Djed Spence, who left Tottenham to join Inter Milan in the summer, missed out on the squad due to injury, but one pundit has said that another player who left Spurs in the summer should be considered.
Tottenham academy graduate Will Lankshear suggested as England option
Will Lankshear has scored eight goals in 10 matches across all competitions for Middlesbrough since leaving Tottenham in the summer.
The 21-year-old’s exploits at the Riverside Stadium have got some Spurs fans to wonder if the club should have kept him, especially given that De Zerbi’s men are struggling to find the back of the net.
Michael Owen has now claimed that Tuchel should consider the former Tottenham man for the England squad, even though he is not playing in the top flight.
When asked if Lankshear could be an option for the Three Lions, Owen told Casino.org: “You have to consider him and look at any striker like that. I think there is a dearth of strikers; we know the game has changed.
“We don’t see two strikers anymore, and squads are not really carrying four or five strikers like they used to, so it is inevitable we have that dearth of strikers. So anyone who shows that bit of potential like him, our eyes have got to be drawn toward him and have a look at them.”
Should Spurs be seriously considering re-signing Lankshear?
Tottenham do have a 20% sell-on clause and matching rights for Lanskshear, and one wonders if the club will be seriously considering activating that.
On sealing his exit from Hotspur Way, the youngster said that Spurs will always be engraved in his heart, admitting a special connection with the North London club.
However, one should not be getting carried away by the 21-year-old’s potential just yet, as it is going to need more than a month of excellent form in the Championship to show that he is ready for Premier League football.
