Newcastle United have just submitted a shock offer for a highly-rated Tottenham man, and they have been met with a swift response.
We know that talks are ongoing between Newcastle and Spurs regarding a mammoth deal for Sandro Tonali, who Roberto De Zerbi is keen to add to his squad.
In fact, reports have indicated that the Italy international is getting closer to a move to Tottenham, having already agreed personal terms with the North Londoners.
However, in a major twist, the Magpies have now turned the tables by sending an offer of their own for one of Spurs’ midfielders.
Tottenham reject Newcastle’s offer for Archie Gray
Fabrizio Romano has now revealed that Eddie Howe’s men have sent a surprise offer to the Lilywhites for Archie Gray, which was swiftly rejected.
He explained that Newcastle’s interest in the former Leeds man remains even though Tottenham have communicated they want to keep the player.
Romano wrote on X: “Newcastle send offer to Tottenham for Archie Gray, rejected by Spurs. Spurs made their position clear following the approach, with no agreement reached between the clubs at this stage. Told NUFC remain interested, while Spurs stance is unchanged for now.”
Spurs have already given an assurance to Gray
This report comes just a couple of days after TEAMtalk revealed that Tottenham will not consider selling the England U21 international this summer.
The outlet claimed that Spurs have already assured Gray of his importance to the club and that the midfielder remains fully committed to the Lilywhites.
It was also revealed that De Zerbi had been impressed by Gray’s versatility and believes the youngster could become one of the cornerstones of the club’s project over the coming years.
