Tottenham defender Djed Spence has penned a touching message after being included in the England squad for the World Cup.

While the Tottenham man has been in the last couple of England squads, he was expected to miss out on the World Cup squad, given the Lilywhites’ struggles and his lack of game time over recent weeks.

However, Thomas Tuchel decided to name Spence in his 26-man squad, while controversially leaving out the likes of Lewis Hall and Trent Alexander-Arnold.

The 25-year-old is set to get his first taste of a major tournament this summer, and he is over the moon to be on the plane to North America.

Spence reflected on the difficult journey he had to the top and confessed that he never lost faith, even though he had some testing moments.

The Tottenham man wrote on Instagram: “I dreamed about moments like this. One of the greatest days of my life, to be called up to represent my family & my country at the World Cup! I’ve been down a rough road, I’ve always kept going, even when the odds were against me, even when no one believed in me, I never gave up!

Roberto De Zerbi is over the moon for Spence

The former Middlesbrough man has started just once under the new Tottenham boss, who has preferred Destiny Udogie and Pedro Porro over the Englishman.

However, De Zerbi confessed that he is delighted that Spence is going to the World Cup, describing the 25-year-old as a ‘great guy’.

The Tottenham full-back will be hoping to replicate what his teammate Cristian Romero did with Argentina four years ago by bringing the trophy home this summer.
