A Tottenham Hotspur player has been included in the 26-man England squad for the World Cup, which seemed unlikely even 24 hours ago.
Given the season that Tottenham have had, Spurs fans did not expect any of their English players to make Thomas Tuchel’s squad.
The Lilywhites are still in danger of being relegated going into their final game of the season, with Roberto De Zerbi’s men needing a point against Everton to be assured of safety.
However, a player who has not even been a regular in Tottenham’s starting eleven under the Italian coach has now been named in the Three Lions squad for the World Cup.

Tottenham star Djed Spence will be at the World Cup
Injuries have prevented James Maddison and Dominic Solanke from vying for a place in the England squad, but surprisingly, their teammate, Djed Spence, has made the cut.
Tuchel announced his 26-man squad this morning, which had several surprises, with the Tottenham full-back’s inclusion being one of the biggest.
The 25-year-old has started just one of Spurs’ six games under De Zerbi, but he will be on the flight to North America this summer.
Spence suffers injury ahead of Spurs’ clash against Everton
It emerged yesterday that Spence had suffered a broken jaw during Tottenham’s 2-1 loss at Stamford Bridge on Tuesday.
The injury occurred when the full-back was caught on the face by Liam Delap, who, controversially, escaped with just a yellow card rather than a sending off.
The injury is not expected to keep the defender out of Sunday’s game, with Spence expected to feature with a face mask on against Everton.
