‘No regrets’ – Former Spurs boss admits ‘things didn’t go well’ while he was in charge

Nuno Espirito Santo has said that while things did not go according to plan for him during his brief stint in charge of Tottenham Hotspur, it was a ‘pleasure’ to have had an opportunity to work at the North London club.

More than two years after his sacking by Tottenham, Nuno Espirito Santo is now back in the Premier League, replacing Steve Cooper as Nottingham Forest’s new head coach.

The Portuguese coach will be hoping to rebuild his reputation following his ill-fated spell at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, which only lasted four months before Antonio Conte replaced him at the helm.

Before his time at Spurs, the 49-year-old did an excellent job at Wolves, securing promotion for the Molineux outfit back to the top flight and establishing them as Premier League regulars.

No Spurs regrets for Nuno

That is something he will look to replicate at the City Ground, with Nuno coming into the job on the back of a successful stint at Al-Ittihad, guiding the club to the Saudi Pro League title last season.

In his first press conference as Forest boss, the experienced coach was asked if he has any regrets over his time at Spurs, and he responded (via Jonathan Veal): “No, no regrets, it happened. It was a pleasure to be at Spurs, things didn’t go well so we move forwards. But no regrets.”

Nuno will return to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium for the first time when his Forest side make the trip to the capital in early April.

Spurs Web Opinion

Nuno is a class act and unlike Jose Mourinho, who does not miss an opportunity to take a dig at Tottenham, he has remained quite dignified whenever asked about his former employers.

It could be argued that Nuno has more cause for complaint than Jose does, given how little time he got at the club and the fact that he was dealing with the fallout from Harry Kane’s failed move to Manchester City, and the striker’s subsequent poor start to the season.
