‘Optimism it’ll be done’ – Journalist provides update on Tottenham’s Joe Rodon chase

The Evening Standard’s Dan Kilpatrick has taken to social media to reveal that Tottenham Hotspur are optimistic of completing the signing of Swansea City centre-back Joe Rodon.

The young defender has earned plenty of plaudits for his performances for club and county over the last few years and has been tipped to achieve big things in the future (Sky Sports).

Some Spurs fans on social media are sceptical of whether the 22-year-old is the answer to the team’s issues at centre-back, given his lack of experience in the top-flight.

However, it looks as though fans may get an idea of the defender’s ability later this evening, with Kilpatrick revealing that Rodon is expected to start in the heart of the Wales defence for their international friendly against England.

While the journalist did suggest that the North Londoners were confident of getting a deal for the Swansea man over the line before the October 16 deadline, he did admit that the two clubs were still quite far apart in their valuations of the defender as things stand.

It would have been nice to see how Rodon fares against Kane but the England captain is unlikely to be handed a start by Gareth Southgate, given that the Three Lions have Nations League clashes against Belgium and Denmark coming up in quick succession. Being up against the likes of Dominic Calvert-Lewin or Danny Ings will still demand a lot of Rodon and it will certainly be interesting to see how he copes.
