Richarlison is attempting to seal a move away from Tottenham Hotspur after being left out of the club’s Premier League squad for the first half of the season.
The Brazilian was named in Spurs’ starting eleven for their first league game of the season at Brentford, and at that time, not many could have predicted how things would sour over the subsequent weeks.
Richarlison unleashed a spectacular outburst on social media in the final days of the transfer window, insisting that he would not be forced to make a move he did not want to.
Subsequently, Roberto De Zerbi has insisted that the striker decided his future on his own, stating that the Brazilian had made his desire to leave the club clear since the start of the window.
Tottenham could terminate Richarlison’s contract
The former Everton man now faces the prospect of being on the sidelines for four months if he does not seal a move away from Tottenham soon.
The problem is that Richarlison does not have too many options at the moment, with transfer windows across the overwhelming majority of the leagues now shut.
Ben Jacobs believes that Tottenham could terminate the 29-year-old’s contract, which has a year left to run, thus freeing him up to move elsewhere as a free agent.
The journalist told talkSPORT: “There’s even an outside chance that, a bit like Karim Benzema at Al-Hilal [the striker has just become a free agent], you get a mutual termination of contract.”
“Chelsea did it with Raheem Sterling as well, and that would allow Richarlison to enter into free agency and then take his pick of a far bigger pool of suitors.”
What are Richarlison’s options if Spurs do not terminate his contract?
Richarlison was heavily linked with a move to Trabzonspor until a few days ago, but that is no longer an option as the Turkish transfer window closed on Friday.
If Spurs do not terminate the striker’s deal, he would only be left with a few options to seal a move away over the coming weeks.
Transfer windows in Portugal, Saudi Arabia and Brazil remain open at the moment, with Saudi clubs being able to sign players until the middle of October.
