Pape Matar Sarr is seemingly edging closer to leaving Tottenham Hotspur in the final few days of the transfer window.
The midfielder did not make Spurs’ matchday squad in their first two games of the season, and finds himself having fallen down the pecking order following the arrivals of Mateus Fernandes and Sandro Tonali.
According to various reports, Sarr has informed Roberto De Zerbi of his desire to leave Tottenham in search of regular game time.
The race for the midfielder is heating up, and it appears that one club have emerged as clear frontrunners to land the 23-year-old.
Tottenham’s Pape Sarr agrees personal terms with Monaco
It emerged a couple of days ago that Monaco were exploring a late move to take Sarr back to Ligue 1, and it appears that they have made progress in their efforts.
This is according to Senegalese outlet Taggat, who have revealed that the French club have agreed personal terms with the Tottenham man, and that the midfielder has already spoken to the club’s head coach, Filipe Luis.
Taggat reports on X: “Pape Matar Sarr is nearing a return to France, on loan to Monaco. The Senegalese midfielder has already reached an agreement on personal terms with the club. He has also spoken with coach Filipe Luís, who appreciates his profile. It now remains to find an agreement between the two clubs.”
Late Premier League interest in Sarr as race heats up
However, we have also heard over recent hours that the Senegal international is attracting some late interest in the Premier League.
According to The Telegraph’s Mike McGrath, Nottingham Forest and Crystal Palace have also launched enquiries over a deal for Sarr.
The journalist added that Brentford also remain big admirers of the former Metz man, who has made 141 appearances for Tottenham since arriving at the club in 2022.
