Man City told they will have to pay through the nose to sign Tottenham star

Paul Robinson has reacted to Manchester City’s rumoured interest in Destiny Udogie and has explained what he expects Tottenham and Daniel Levy to do if the Premier League champions come calling for the left-back.

For much of this campaign, Udogie has failed to match the high standards he set for himself last season, but over the last few weeks, the Italian has delivered some outstanding performances, showing signs of returning to form.

This improvement in form comes amidst speculation that the left-back is now wanted by one of the best teams across Europe. It has been reported that Udogie has emerged as a target for Man City ahead of the summer.

However, various outlets over the last few days have claimed that Tottenham have no intention of letting Udogie go this summer, with the Lilywhites instead thought to want to add further reinforcements at left-back.

Man City told they will have to ‘overpay’ Tottenham for Destiny Udogie

Robinson understands why Pep Guardiola’s men are keen on the Tottenham full-back, but the former Spurs number one warned the Premier League champions that they have to overpay to land the player.

The pundit insisted that the North London club will not make things easy for Man City, backing Daniel Levy to make negotiations for Udogie difficult.

When asked about the speculation linking Udogie with a move to the Etihad Stadium, the Tottenham number one told Football Insider: “It’s a deal Manchester City would have to overpay for. He’s got a decent length left on his contract and has been one of Tottenham’s best players this season, although there’s not much competition given their performances this year.

“But actually he’s been a standout performer and is one of the players they want to keep. You can see another overhaul coming at Tottenham with a new manager and a new set of players. Udogie is not going to be one of the ones the club look to let go.

“We all know that Daniel Levy drives a hard bargain and whoever comes in for Udogie will have to overpay. I don’t think Man City will be willing to do that for a left-back.”

Ange Postecoglou makes confident Udogie statement

The speculation over the Italian defender was also put to the Tottenham boss in his press conference a few days ago and the Australian gave a decisive answer.

Postecoglou expects Udogie to become one of Tottenham’s most important players over the coming years, which suggests he is confident that the left-back is going nowhere.

The Spurs head coach explained that the 22-year-old’s injury disruptions over the last 12 months are behind his loss in form, pointing out that the defender is now coming into his own again after putting those problems behind him.
