Pochettino reveals plans for goalkeeper Paulo Gazzaniga

Mauricio Pochettino revealed after Tottenham Hotspur’s 2-1 win at Brighton last night that he had planned to give Paulo Gazzaniga more game time.

The goalkeeper played the full match against Brighton after Tottenham’s number two Michel Vorm was ruled out on Friday after sustaining a knee injury in training at Hotspur Way.

Vorm, who has been deputising for the injured Hugo Lloris has come in for criticism for his displays against Watford, Liverpool and Inter Milan.

Spurs fans had been calling for Pochettino to pick Gazzaniga ahead of Vorm before he got injured after the keeper impressed on his Premier League debut against Crystal Palace last November.

Pochettino revealed in his post-match press conference that he had always planned to play Gazzaniga in the Carabao Cup this season. Tottenham face Watford at Stadium MK on Wednesday evening in the competition.

The Spurs boss told Football.London: “I don’t believe Michel is going to be ready for Wednesday. But the way, in our mind was to give him [Gazzaniga] the cup of course, that was the plan before what happened with Michel.”
