‘Remind me a bit of Modric’ – Micky Hazard praises impact of Spurs midfielder

Former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder has praised the impact which Rodrigo Bentancur has had on the team since arriving from Italy.

The Uruguayan international completed an initial €19 million (£15 million) which is payable over a three-year period with a further €6 million (£5 million) in performance-related add-ons late in the January transfer window from Juventus.

The 24-year-old was named in Antonio Conte’s starting eleven for last night’s match at Brighton in a central midfield pairing alongside Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.

Dejan Kulusevski and Hojbjerg helped to rob Alexis Mac Allister of the ball in the Spurs half which allowed Bentancur to drive forward and thread a brilliant ball into the path of Harry Kane to secure a 2-0 victory in the second half.

Bentancur also showed once again he is comfortable on the ball, looking to get out of trouble with his quick feet when under pressure from the opposition while also putting in a shift to win the ball back with his energetic pressing.

His efforts saw the Spurs fans on Twitter vote him as the club’s official man of the match against the Seagulls.

Bentancur’s performance on the south coast last night went some way to answering Michael Dawson‘s calls for him to offer more creatively in his game with the player looking to get the ball forward at every opportunity.
