Report: 28-year-old Italian defender emerges as January target for Tottenham

According to a report from 90 min.com, Sassuolo defender Gian Marco Ferrari has emerged as a target for Tottenham Hotspur in January.

Multiple reports have suggested that Jose Mourinho wants to add a central defender to his squad during the January transfer window.

While Eric Dier and Toby Alderweireld have both been in decent form this season, Davinson Sanchez has fallen down the pecking order, Joe Rodon is still learning his trade at the top level and Japhet Tanganga has struggled with injuries.

Fiorentina defender, Nikola Milenkovic has previously been mentioned as a target (La Nazione via Sport Witness), while The Evening Standard’s Dan Kilpatrick suggested that Spurs could reignite their interest in Milan Skriniar.

He even claimed that the North Londoners could make a sensational move to sign Sergio Ramos, although the suggestion has been met with scepticism by some Spurs fans on social media.

However, Ferrari, who has enjoyed an impressive couple of years with Sassuolo, would arguably represent a more realistic target. 90 min claim that the 28-year-old is one among several players being considered.

I doubt whether Ferarri would be near the top of Mourinho’s wishlist. While he possesses plenty of experience, signing him would be a risk given that he is unproven outside of the Serie A.
