Report: Arsenal could challenge Spurs for striker

Arsenal will enter the race to sign Real Madrid’s Luka Jovic if he is allowed to leave the La Liga giants, with the striker also said to be a target for Spurs, according to The Mirror (March 29, page 77).

Jovic has failed to hit the expected heights in Spain this season having found the net just twice for Real Madrid (transfermarkt) after they paid in excess of £50 million (Independent) to sign him from Eintracht Frankfurt last summer.

The Mirror reported last week that Madrid are keen to offload the 22-year-old when the transfer market reopens in the summer after his relationship with the club took a hit when the striker refused to self-isolate as requested this month.

The 22-year-old returned from Spain last week and was seen on the streets of Belgrade and pictured at his girlfriend’s birthday party to the frustration of Serbian president Ana Brnabic for ignoring rules around coronavirus guidelines (The Sun).

The report suggested that the Serbian international had been offered to Spurs and Chelsea.

Some Spurs fans on social media got excited about the prospect of Jovic heading to North London and urged the club to get the deal completed.

The Mirror now claim that that Spurs’ North London rivals Arsenal also admire Jovic and may try to take him to the Emirates when the transfer market opens in the summer.

Spurs Web Opinion

Jovic will be a fantastic coup if we manage to sign him. I believe the 22-year-old can play alongside Harry Kane in attack and will help ease the goalscoring burden on Kane and Son.

However, I don’t think Real Madrid will sell him permanently, I expect him to be loaned out for a season.
