Report: Belgian international rejects Spurs for Dortmund switch

Thomas Meunier has rejected the opportunity to join Jose Mourinho’s Tottenham side with Borussia Dortmund hoping to sign the right-back, according to RTBF.

The Paris Saint Germain right-back is out of contract this summer and has been a reported target of Mourinho with Spurs hoping to bolster their defence in the upcoming transfer window.

It had been reported by the Daily Express that Spurs were hoping Meunier’s compatriot, Toby Alderweireld could persuade his fellow-Belgian to join the Lilwyhites.

However, it now seems the right-back has rejected Tottenham’s approach in hope of joining Bundesliga side, Borussia Dortmund.

The report suggests an announcement will be made later this week revealing Meunier’s next club.

There had been reported interest from Manchester United, Liverpool, Atletico Madrid and Juventus, according to the Express.

However, the Belgian reportedly sees his future at the Bundesliga side with Achraf Hakimi returning to his parent club, Real Madrid this summer.

On a free transfer, this would have been a good move for Spurs. We could do with a new right-back who is defensively sound. However, many Spurs fans will be hoping for Max Aarons to join this summer if Norwich goes down, but it is likely the canaries will hold out for a fairly high transfer fee for the youngster.
