Report: Christian Eriksen’s number is no longer available at Madrid

Eden Hazard will wear the number 23 shirt at Real Madrid next season, according to Marca.

The 28-year-old completed his £89 million move from Chelsea early last month (Reuters) and will wear the same shirt number as what Christian Eriksen has at Tottenham Hotspur.

Ironically, Eriksen has been heavily linked with a potential move to the Bernabeu but there has been no offer to date from the Spanish giants (Guardian).

If a move does materialise, the Dane will have to pick a different squad number to the one which he has worn in North London.

Hazard’s decision to change from the number 10 at Chelsea to 23 at Madrid is said be down to the fact that the Belgian is a big basketball fan and the number is well known for being worn by NBA legend Michael Jordan.

Mauricio Pochettino admitted yesterday whilst at the Formula 1 event at Silverstone that he hopes Eriksen will remain at the club but is unsure what will happen before the transfer window closes.

Eriksen has just twelve months to run on his current contract at Spurs and the clock is certainly ticking ahead of the new season.
