Report: Inter Milan are unlikely to outmuscle Spurs in race for attacker

Inter Milan are planning ahead to the summer and have Genoa attacker Albert Gudmundsson firmly in their sights. But, with Tottenham Hotspur willing to pay €40m for the player, there is a belief that the Italian champions simply cannot win the race.

Tottenham are keen on signing a new forward in the summer, to finally fill the void left behind by Harry Kane. While Heung-min Son and Richarlison have provided a decent number of goals this season, there is a belief that more consistency is needed in that area.

One name thought to be on Ange Postecoglou‘s wishlist is Albert Gudmundsson. It has been an incredible season so far for the Genoa man, who has bagged 15 goals and added four assists in 33 games this term (Transfermarkt).

Can Spurs win the race for Albert Gudmundsson?

Inter Milan were believed to be confident of winning the race for the Icelandic star, though (as per Gazzetta dello Sport via FCInterNews). But, the latest word out of Italy suggests otherwise.

First of all, TuttoSport (via SportWitness) claim Gudmundsson has his heart set on a Premier League move. Genoa, are believed to be holding talks with Spurs regarding more potential transfers, after the successful deal to send Radu Dragusin to North London, and Djed Spence in the opposite direction (CalcioMercato).

Now, Corriere dello Sport (via SportWitness) have explained that, as much as Inter Milan want to make Gudmundsson part of their roster for next season, they may find it hard to battle with Tottenham financially.

With Genoa holding out for €40m (£34.3m), there is a belief that Inter would not be able to match that valuation, while Spurs would have no issue offering such a fee.

Spurs Web Opinion

I am a big fan of Gudmundsson, and think he would be a great signing for Spurs. He’s got goals, strength, and is intelligent enough to be successful in the Premier League. He’s also versatile enough to slot into any role in our front four, so could be a perfect addition to the squad.
