Report: Manchester United set to miss out on Christian Eriksen

Manchester United look set to miss out on landing Christian Eriksen, despite tabling an offer to the Danish international, according to The Athletic.

Eriksen joined Brentford in January following his mutual departure from Inter Milan and helped the Bees to avoid relegation from the Premier League to finish in a respectable thirteenth place in the table.

The 30-year-old is currently a free agent and has been offered a new contract by Brentford, Eriksen met with manager Thomas Frank on Tuesday to have dinner and a ‘good talk’ but is still mulling over his future despite the club having hoped he would have made a decision by now.

The report claims that the Middelfart-born product would like to remain in London and it is a straight shoot-out between Brentford and Tottenham Hotspur to secure his signature ahead of the new season.

ESPN claimed earlier this week that Brentford are becoming resigned to missing out on Eriksen.

A move back to Tottenham will give Eriksen the opportunity to play in the Champions League once again while also reuniting with many of his former team-mates and the lure of playing under Antonio Conte, having won the Serie A title under the Italian at Inter Milan.

Eriksen will also be able to remain in London should be decide to return to N17 in what appears to be a no-brainer for both the player and the club.
