Report: Player linked with Spurs signs new five-year deal with club

In what could come as a potential blow to Tottenham Hotspur, Brighton have confirmed that Lewis Dunk has signed a new contract with the club.

With Jan Vertonghen leaving Spurs at the end of last season, reports indicate that signing a centre-back is one of Jose Mourinho’s priorities this summer. (Evening Standard).

The Sun claimed two weeks ago that Dunk was one of the central defenders on Tottenham’s radar this summer, with the Lilywhites reportedly competing with Chelsea for the 28-year-old’s signature.

The report suggested that the Stamford Bridge outfit were the favourites to beat Spurs to the centre-half’s signature with Dunk being a boyhood fan of Frank Lampard’s side.

Some Spurs fans on social media were quite divided over the rumours linking the club with a move for Dunk, with some believing the England international will be a solid addition and others questioning the logic behind the transfer.

However, any hopes the Lilywhites had of landing Dunk now appear dead, with the experienced defender putting pen to paper on a five-year contract with the Seagulls.

Spurs Web Opinion

I am not disappointed in us missing out on Dunk as I do not believe he would have been an upgrade over Alderweireld, Dier or Sanchez. However, I am surprised we are not in the race for Gabriel Magalhaes, who seems to be edging closer to a move to Arsenal. The Brazilian seems to have all the attributes to develop into a top PL centre-back and it will be a shame to see him snapped up by the Gunners.
