Report: Postecoglou gives Spurs green light to bid for £50m-rated target this month

The Telegraph have revealed that Tottenham Hotspur are set to launch a move for James Maddison after Ange Postecoglou gave the club the green light to launch a bid this month.

The report states that Postecoglou has identified Maddison as his ‘priority target’ this summer just days after being confirmed as the new Spurs head coach.

After getting approval from the Australian, the North London club are said ready to make an opening offer for the attacking midfielder.

However, it is explained that while Leicester City are resigned to losing Maddison this summer following their relegation from the Premier League, they are expected to demand a significant fee for the player.

Maddison is likely to cost Spurs over £50m

The Telegraph suggest that the Foxes value the England international at over £50m even though he has just 12 months left on his contract at the King Power Stadium.

Leicester are said to feel that despite the circumstances, Maddison’s market value remains quite high due to the numbers he has posted recently and his homegrown statues.

The report also suggests that Tottenham are just likely to be one of a long line of potential suitors for the former Norwich City man this summer with Newcastle United having previously been tipped to battle it out with Spurs for Maddison’s signature.

Spurs Web Opinion

It is certainly not surprising that Postecoglou is prioritising a move for Maddison as attacking midfielders are very important to the 57-year-old’s system and we currently have none in the squad (other than the players who were out on loan such as Giovani Lo Celso and Tanguy Ndombele).

Maddison is undoubtedly one of the best in the Premier League in his position and there is no doubt that there will be a major scramble for his signature over the coming weeks and months.
