Report: Spurs make £18.8m bid for central defender who is attracting interest elsewhere

Tottenham Hotspur have tabled a €22million (£18.8million) transfer bid for Danish defender Victor Nelsson, according to Turkish news outlet Hurriyet.

The central defender has played an important part in Galatasaray’s side this season, having made 35 appearances in all competitions (transfermarkt) which saw them crowned as Turkish champions for the first time since 2019.

Fanatik reported earlier this week that Tottenham could face competition for the Danish international’s signature from north London rivals Arsenal who are also looking to bolster their defensive options ahead of the new campaign.

Spurs face competition for Nelsson

The 24-year-old is reported to be on the radar of multiple clubs this summer with not only Spurs and Arsenal keen on Nelsson, but there is also interest from Italy.

Galatasaray are already making contingency plans for the potential departure of the former FC Copenhagen player with either Inter Milan’s Stefan De Vri and Merih Demiral of Atalanta lined up as a replacement.

Tottenham look set to make changes to the heart of their defence ahead of next season with former club-record signing Davinson Sanchez having been linked with a move to La Liga outfit Sevilla (Antena 2).

SpursWeb Opinion

Tottenham’s defence last season was a liability with too many individual errors having cost the side dearly, which is a far cry from the days of the club having the best record when the likes of Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen were marshalling the back line.

Ange Postecoglou needs to be given free reign to make wholesale changes to the squad and if that means the likes of Eric Dier, Davinson Sanchez and Japhet Tanganga head out of the exit to make way for the likes of Nelsson, then at least we are trying to move forward with a rebuild.
