Report: Spurs withdraw from race for Champions League winner Mourinho admires

According to a report by Fussballtransfers, Tottenham Hotspur have withdrawn from the race to sign Ivan Perisic, thus opening the door for other Premier League clubs to sign the Croat.

Jose Mourinho has expressed his admiration for the Croatian international in the past and it was reported back in July that the Spurs boss wanted to bring the winger to North London, with the possibility of a swap deal with Erik Lamela being mooted (Calciomercato).

On the back of Perisic’s impressive cameos for Bayern in the later stages of the Champions League last season, some Spurs fans on social media were quite receptive to the idea of signing the 31-year-old.

However, with Tottenham sealing the capture of Gareth Bale on Saturday, Mourinho now has an embarrassment of riches in the wide areas.

Fussballtranfers reveals that the Lilywhites have told Inter Milan that they are no longer interested in signing Perisic, with Manchester United, Leicester City and Everton now said to be fighting it out for the winger’s signature.
