Roberto De Zerbi has set the record straight after his comments about an incoming Tottenham transfer ‘bomba’ led to a lot of speculation on social media.

A couple of days ago, De Zerbi stated that ‘now we have another bomba’, while discussing his desire to land his top transfer targets.

The Tottenham boss has now clarified what he meant when he made those comments, which have dominated the headlines over the past 48 hours.

Roberto De Zerbi says his Tottenham ‘bomba’ comments have been misinterpreted

Many took the Spurs head coach’s ‘bomba’ comments to mean that a surprise transfer signing may be on its way soon.

They have thus speculated on potential deals which have not been reported on much, such as Coady Gakpo, with some on social media even suggesting outlandish names such as Bradley Barcola.

De Zerbi has now clarified that he only meant more signings are on the way with his ‘bomba’ comments and that his words may have been misconstrued by the media.

The Tottenham boss told Football.London: “Bomba in Italian is different to English. You can write what you want. I said we have to compete in the transfer market. We have some other players to complete the squad. (So what is Bomba in Italian?) Tonali, Fernandes, Senesi, Robertson are bomba. Top players for us.”

However, the Italian did reiterate that he expects multiple more new faces to join the squad before the window slams shut.

De Zerbi remarked that the club are trying to get two or three more signings through the door in the final month of the window.

When asked how many more signings he expects, the 46-year-old responded: “I think two, maybe three, we have to see.”
