Some Spurs fans on social media have been left extremely impressed with what they saw from Carlos Vinicius on his Tottenham debut against LASK last night.
The club’s inability to find a suitable plan B to Harry Kane up front has plagued them for quite a while, with Vincent Janssen failing to make the expected impact and Fernando Llorente proving to be just a temporary stop-gap.
There was thus plenty of excitement around Vinicius’ arrival, with fans hoping that the Brazilian could finally prove to be the long-term solution to the club’s striker owes.
The 25-year-old certainly showed some promising signs on his debut as not only did he display strength in holding up the ball but also proved that he can run in-behind the opposition defence.
While Vinicius did not get on the scoresheet, he did set up Lucas Moura’s and Son Heung-min’s goals with intelligent pieces of play.
Here’s how some fans reacted to his debut performance:
Great replacement for Kane when he is tired. We’ve been craving a decent striker for ages. Hopefully he doesn’t just keep the bench warm for the entire season because he looks decent

Poor quality opposition, but the touch of that pass and header for both assists was nice. If we’re down we could actually have 2 strikers on pitch, what a time to be alive

Amazing player. Great left foot. Fantastic vision.
Can improve on holding the ball upfront.
Wonderful Signing.

As debuts go that was pretty damn good.

Early days but impressed with Vinicius in that first half. Doing a similar job to Kane in terms of being able to drop in deeper to get on the ball and spread the play. Got a good feeling about him.

I keep hearing pundits say he will only play if Kane is rested but with Kane playing deeper I could see times with both of them on the pitch together.

Carlos Vinicíus will be our plan B. Kane can drop as deep as he wants and Carlos will hoof it to Son for a goal.
Can't wait.

Spurs Web Opinion
We have to be cautious from reading too much into one game and remember also that the quality of the opposition defence left a lot to be desired. Vinicius will certainly be coming against more physical and quicker defenders in the Premier League and is unlikely to get as much time on the ball as he did on Thursday. However, based on that performance, there is every indication that he possesses all the attributes that Jose was looking for in a centre-forward. Vinicius was selfless in his running off the ball and he certainly looks like he will be an asset to bring on if we are struggling to break teams down.
