Spanish media just quoted a crazy low price for Tottenham’s Cristian Romero

Tottenham Hotspur have allegedly dropped their asking price for Cristian Romero considerably in an effort to cash in on their captain.

Romero is expected to leave Tottenham this summer, with the centre-back’s relationship with the club having reportedly become strained towards the end of last season.

Spurs have already secured the services of Marcos Senesi and Jan Paul van Hecke, which many Tottenham fans see as a precursor to the potential sale of the club captain.

Last week, Ben Jacobs asserted that Spurs are willing to sell Romero for around £50m-£60m this summer, but it has now emerged that the Lilywhites could accept a loss on the Argentine.

‘Considerable reduction’ reported in Tottenham’s asking price for Cristian Romero

The print edition of Mundo Deportivo (as relayed by Sport Witness) has now claimed that Atletico Madrid approached Spurs twice regarding Romero last summer, but were met with a ‘resounding no’ on both occasions.

It is revealed that at the time, Spurs were demanding €70m (£60.3m) for Romero, but the Lilywhites’ stance has changed since then.

The North Londoners were unhappy with the centre-back’s behaviour towards the end of last season, and having signed Van Hecke and Senesi, they have decided that it would be ‘best to end his time’ at the club.

The outlet claims that Roberto De Zerbi’s men have now dropped their asking price for Romero to just €30m (£25.8m), and the ‘considerable reduction’ presents a market opportunity for Atletico.

If you ask us at The Spurs Web, that figured sounds about £30m too low for Tottenham to even consider a bid this summer.

Romero has changed his stance on his Spurs future

This report comes just a couple of days after SportsBoom claimed that the 28-year-old Tottenham star has done a U-turn on his future.

The update claimed that Romero had informed Spurs that he now wants to stay at the club rather than seeking a new challenge.

It was explained that the centre-back believes that he still has unfinished business at N17 and sees himself as an important figure in helping the club move forward.
