The silver lining amidst Tottenham’s injury crisis

While there have not been too many positives for Spurs over the last few months, one undoubted benefit of their injury crisis has been the fact that many young players have had opportunities to show what they can do at the highest level.

Several have grabbed their chances with both hands, with Mikey Moore, Lucas Bergvall and Archie Gray showing just why there is so much hype around them.

Yaya Toure is well aware of the kind of talent coming through the ranks at Hotspur Way, having worked as an academy coach at the club during the 2022-23 season, and he has now singled out two players he is particularly excited about.

Yaya Toure backs Spurs duo Mikey Moore and Callum Olusesi

Toure, who left Spurs in 2023, now works as the assistant of the Saudi Arabian national side, but it appears that he is still keeping an eye on the developments back in North London.

The 41-year-old congratulated Moore and Olusesi for the strides they have made at Hotspur Way, and suggested that both players are destined for the very top if they continue working hard on their game.

Toure wrote: “I am delighted to see Mikey Moore and Callum Olusesi progressing in their careers as young players I worked with during my time at Spurs’ academy.

“Both are great young people and very talented. I know they will keep working hard. Seeing them on the pitch together last night was great! Keep going, lads!!!”

Will we see more of Callum Olusesi this season?

Moore has already successfully made the transition from youth football to the senior side, and now that he has recovered from his illness, the teenager has an opportunity to become an important part of the first team over the coming months.

Olusesi is still yet to make that jump, although he has been part of matchday squads on a few occasions and made his debut against Hoffenheim last week.

The 17-year-old midfielder is continuing to turn in eye-catching performances for the Under-21s and if he maintains the same standard of performances, Postecoglou might be tempted to use him over coming months, especially given that Tottenham appear unlikely to sign a midfielder this window.
