Spurs legend questions Mourinho’s Gareth Bale decision against West Brom

Tottenham Hotspur got back to winning ways this afternoon as they eased to a 2-0 win over West Bromwich Albion.

Some Spurs fans on social media were pleased with the attacking impetus that Jose Mourinho’s men showed and admitted that they wanted to see the Tottenham boss stick with a similar formation.

However, legendary Spurs defender Graham Roberts took issue with Mourinho’s decision to leave Gareth Bale on the bench.

Bale put in a poor display when he was handed a start in the 1-0 loss to Brighton last week and the Welshman subsequently dropped back to the bench against Chelsea on Thursday.

Mourinho decided to bring Lucas Moura and Erik Lamela into the starting line up against West Brom and the pair certainly brought plenty of energy to the Spurs side.

However, Roberts took to social media to claim that Mourinho should have handed Gareth Bale around 25 minutes when the home side were 2-0 up, in order to help the Welshman get back to full fitness.

Spurs Web Opinion

The priority this afternoon was getting the three points, especially given that the players’ confidence seemed to have taken a blow on the back of recent results. Given that we have thrown leads away many times this season, I do not blame Mourinho for being cautious with his substitutions.
