Concerning signs for Spurs against Fulham

Under Ange Postecoglou, Tottenham have always tended to give a decent account of themselves at home and create plenty of chances, even in the matches that they have lost.

However, that was not the case against Fulham on Sunday, with the Cottagers looking fairly comfortable and even seeming the more likely side to get a match-winner until their late red card.

Some alarm bells might be ringing at N17 on the back of that performance but Ange Postecoglou pointed to the fact that Tottenham were without a whole host of their key players.

Pape Sarr quietly had a decent game for Tottenham

The general consensus among Spurs fans on Sunday was that Fraser Forster, Ben Davies, and perhaps Radu Dragusin were the only players who could hold their heads up high after the display against Fulham.

However, one Tottenham man, who has played nearly every single game over the past month and a half, delivered another energetic, all-action display in the middle of the park.

According to WhoScored, Sarr won possession back more times than any other player across the Premier League over the weekend, with the Spurs man recovering the ball 13 times.

Sarr is crucial to how Spurs play

Postecoglou‘s system demands the midfielders to play with energy, get up and down the pitch all game, and ensure that opposition players do not have time to thread through balls.

That is perhaps one of the reasons why the Australian wanted to sign a player of Conor Gallagher’s profile in the summer.

Sarr is the closest thing that Tottenham have to the profile, the Senegal international tirelessly closing down opposition players for 90 minutes.
